The Control the Bleed course equips individuals with the skills to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding in the crucial minutes before emergency services arrive. It empowers bystanders to become immediate lifesavers, providing the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to act quickly and effectively.
Whether it's a workplace accident, vehicle crash, farming injury, or violent incident, participants will learn how to take action and potentially save a life before professional help is on the scene.
In rural or remote areas of New Zealand, emergency services can take longer to arrive. Having bystanders trained in bleeding control can make the critical difference in those first few minutes after an injury.
Severe bleeding doesn't only happen in extreme situations. Farm injuries, car accidents, workplace incidents, and outdoor activities (like hiking or hunting) are all common scenarios in New Zealand where bleeding control can save lives.
New Zealand is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, where emergency services may be overwhelmed or delayed. In such scenarios, community members trained in basic trauma care can play a vital role in helping others.
The course promotes resilience by giving ordinary people the confidence and skills to act in emergencies, contributing to safer schools, homes, and public spaces.
The training includes a mix of theoretical learning and practical scenarios, covering:
✅ Situational awareness and safety
✅ Recognizing a life-threaten bleed
✅ Direct Pressure: How and where to apply firm pressure
